CHINA: Pastor Detained for Purchasing Christian Books

On 29 October, Li Xiaoyan, the wife of house church minister Chen Lijun, sent out a prayer request and disclosed information about her husband’s case.

Police detained Chen Lijun on 13 August because he purchased Christian books online. Chen has been detained on charges of fraud until now, and over 100 Christians of his church are also facing similar persecution.

On 27 August, Li Xiaoyan received his detention notice (pictured right) issued by the Luan County Bureau of Public Security, which claimed that the Bureau criminally detained Chen on suspicion of fraud at the Luan County Detention Centre.

Li asked Christians of other churches to intercede in the following ways:

Pray for Chen Lijun’s upcoming sentence.

Pray for the 100 other church members that face persecution.

Intercede for the illegal persecution, suppression, and the large fine (approximately $21,500 AUD) that Chen Lijun received because of his faith.

Lift up the Xiaoyan family. Li’s father had stomach cancer, and her mother had oesophageal cancer and still takes medication. The two of them, as well as Li and Chen’s two sons, all depend on Li’s low monthly income. Li herself has various health issues.
