When Chinh Huy Vien and his family accepted Christ, they did not expect to face such harsh persecution from the community they were once a part of.
After coming to know Jesus, the family registered themselves with the Evangelical Church of Vietnam. Since then, they have faced hostility at the hands of local authorities and community members alike.
Chinh’s family are often forced to present themselves at the local police station. The authorities held a community vote, and his family were driven out of their commune.
On 11 June, the local authorities cut off the family’s electricity. Just two weeks later on 28 June, their land was seized.
An agreement was put in place by local authorities to prohibit villagers from having contact with Chinh and his family. Any villager who breaks this rule is fined.
Policemen from Vietnam’s border army came to beat and threaten Chinh’s family. They installed a camera in front of their home to monitor the family’s movements.
Chinh’s family hasn’t been allowed to buy food or exchange other items for rice. His children’s birth certificates and other important documents have been confiscated, and authorities used the village’s local broadcast system to inform the villagers not to allow Chinh’s children to attend school.
Despite facing harsh persecution from the community they were once a part of, the family remain encouraged by the goodness and faithfulness of God.
Through your support, we have provided funds for Chinh and his family to purchase food and shelter.
“Thank you so much for your donations to support us,” says Chinh. “We are being persecuted for the sake of Christ. Thank you for your help.”
The family are planning to bring their case before the provincial authorities to seek justice. Please pray that God would continue to provide for them, and that through their faithful witness, many others in the village will come to know Christ.
Names have been changed to protect the family’s identity.
