The vision for the New Year’s Day Sunrise Prayer Relay was born in the Illawarra in late 2015 while Pat Steele was praying about where to have a prayer meeting in the Illawarra, the Lord showed him a series of locations around the Illawarra, then across Australia and the nations, he knew it was a prayer relay and shared it with Warwick Marsh, together they shared the vision and on New Year’s Day 2016 there were people praying all across Australia and 23 other nations joined in, it has become an annual event and every year since it has continued to grow with 70 nations registered for 2020.

It is very simple but very powerful, thousands of short prayer gatherings at locations all around the world at sunrise on New Year’s Day which overlap to create a global prayer relay.

At each location, participants pray ‘The Lord’s Prayer’ aloud as the sunrises and then are encouraged to pray for their unsaved family and friends, for their city or town, for their nation and the nations to know Jesus, this year there was also an emphasis on praying for rain in Australia.

The locations in the Illawarra for 2020 were Flagstaff Hill, Hill 60, Windang Island, The Farm, Robertson Lookout and Bald Hill. (See images in gallery)
