Shellharbour Community Church Making A Difference In Vanuatu

In July two teams of volunteers from Shellharbour Community Church travelled to Vanuatu to work with a local community in Teoma, near Port Vila. We saw God do amazing things in the community and in our team!

Our team worked with the villagers to strengthen their church structure so it will be able to withstand a cyclone, and installed lights and walls on the church building to provide shade, light and shelter during church gatherings. We also installed an extra water tank and improved guttering so that the community will always have access to clean, safe water for their families.

Other team members worked on medical clinic and health education with the villagers, mainly focussing on wound care and eye testing. In the lead up to the trip, the church community donated hundreds of pairs of glasses and lots of medical supplies to bless the village. Because of this, dozens of villagers were given pairs of glasses that enabled them to see clearly and read which was life-changing for many people!

Several of the youth performed skits that helped communicate Biblical truths, had the courage to share their testimony and prayed for people, most of them for the first time! We were so proud of the ways they stepped out of their comfort zones to bless others in the churches, communities and the local prison.

One of the best moments of the trip was getting to be a part of the opening ceremony for a new church structure in a remote village. No one in that village had ever heard of Jesus until a few months ago when the pastor of the church we were working with, met with the chief of the remote village and shared the Gospel. The whole village got saved! It was so amazing to meet with this community of brand new believers, see their fire for God and be able to share with them. It gave us a passion for seeing more unreached people in Vanuatu come to know God!

Vanuatu is a beautiful country and it was such a joy to partner with our brothers and sisters in Christ. We felt such a sense of unity and joy in being together!
